Welcome to Bar IJ Foundation Quarter Horses

The Foundation Quarter horse promotes the qualities of the "old style" working ranch horse; natural cow sense, a tractable disposition, and the good bone, muscle, and thick walled feet to be able to stand up to their duties for many years. Foundation Quarter Horses have the ability to rein, cut a cow, and go for a pleasure ride.

For the last 30 years we have selected our horses for their conformation, athletic ability, temperament. and soundness. From there, we decided to specialize in the grullo/grulla color, homozygous black gene and homozygous dun factor gene. Our horses are all triple registered with the AQHA, NFQHA, and FQHR. Many are 100% Foundation. They are Poco Bueno and Little Steel Dust bred.

Our objective is to raise horses with the ability and disposition needed for the all-round working and riding horse, with color as a bonus.

We are located 45 minutes west of Red Deer, Alberta. Visitors are always welcome, so stop by for a coffee if you are in the area, and we will be happy to show you our horses.
