We received a report last night from Doug Doschewnyk that three horses were discovered shot West of Sundre on Coal Camp Road just North of the Rangers Station.  The victims were, a mare heavy in foal, a yearling colt and a 2 to 4 year old stallion.  They all had bullet holes in them.  The stallion was still alive and flopping around, according to the first person on the scene.  The fellow left to get a gun to put it out of its misery, but when he returned the stallion was dead as well.  The mare had her birthing sack hanging out of her and on closer inspection you could see the tiny hooves sticking out.  The yearling colt had taken a bullet to the chest and had ran uphill about 100 yards before collapsing.   Bob and I arrived at the scene at about 9:00 pm and it was getting dark.  I walked to each dead animal and studied it and wept at their senseless, violent deaths.  Each horse still somewhat warm to the touch, I gently touched their faces and said a prayer for them.  I could hear Bob cursing in the background at the spineless, heartless coward that did this, and he promised the little one he would find his killer.Š

What the hell is wrong with this society???? How can a human being be so damn cruel and heartless? Do they think these animals were put on this earth for target practice?? I am not a religious person, but if I was, I would be praying for the capture of these spineless, heartless individuals. To who ever you are, you will be found someday. And when you are, it’s more than just the legal justice system that you will have to defend yourself to. It will be an entire community of horse people and we are a very powerful and compassionate group. Good luck and good riddance to you, who ever you are.

Just read this on yahoo news.. something seriously wrong with the morons who think shooting these animals is fun.

What a sad, sad day. I grew up in the Bergen area, I have explored, drilled and learned many values from this beautiful area. It is with deep sorrow that such a terrible act was performed by someone with no respect for this area’s natural wildlife. The wild horses of the Yaha Tinda are part of a world wildlife corridor. Having lived, worked and enjoyed such a sacred area of the world, I hope justice is brought to those responsible. Funding is required to support local RCMP in the hunt for those responsible.

My heart is weeping for these beautiful beings that our part of our planet. This person needs help, isn’t said the abuse starts with animals what kind of shape is this person family in.

It breaks my heart that some JERK would kill these beautiful horses. They are suck Majestic and Graceful animals. Any person who has ever been on the back of a horse with the wind blowing in their hair has had a little piece of heaven.

This is so sad that it makes me sick. Every time I hear that more horses have been killed it it pisses me off. I can’t understand why the hell anyone would do this. I hope they catch these sick cowards, and if the law dosen’t provide justice, then I hope someone else will. These bastards deserve to be kicked and stompted to death by a herd of wild horses.

I am also sickened by the lack of respect some people have for horses and other living beings. They weren’t doing anything harmful to anyone. The person or persons who did this gruesome act is sick and needs severe help!! I hope the people responsible are caught.

This was such a very sad story, I cried hard after reading. I was so touched I decided to post a link of this story on Twitter asking people to retweet the link to bring awareness to this horrible act of violence against these wild horses and do what we can to make sure stuff like this doesn’t continue to happen. Let me know how I can inform my followers on how they can help this cause, if possible.

I have started a Facebook Page For These Beautiful Horses. Please Join “Stop The Killing Of Alberta’s Wild Horses” Thank You

I saw the report on CBC television. How very sad and tragic that someone could be so cruel. I really hope that the police are able to find the perpetrators of this terrible crime. These horses are such beautiful creatures and deserve our protection. I will be very interested to follow the story and wish your organization all the best in your efforts to help the horses.

I can not understnd how can someone kill such a beatifull animals.
This is as sad if not sadder incident than death of the 500 ducks in Alberta.
I hope there is an investigation into this tragedy. I have heard a saying that “Nation is known how they treat they animals”. I cannot say too much for Alberta at this time it is a sad day indeed.
I am interested to follow this particular story and in any way advocate for this beatifull animals.

I just seem the story of the horses on CBC. I was shocked! I had never heard about this going on in Alberta until now. I cried for these beautiful animals… then became very angry! Another example of how some human beings believe they are superior to any other living things with which we share this earth. I have experienced many people who believe that if an animal is not livestock or an “income earning” animal, it is a nuisance. They do not see beauty in anything and are extremely ignorant. But to shoot a mare with baby…I hope with all my heart that they are found and made to be held responsible for their actions.

All I can say that this inciedent of killing these beatifull wild horses is a sad day indeed.

The horses ought to have a place in the foothills.

About 10 years ago I during a hunting trip I came up on one of those animals.. it was almost a spiritual moment.

The horse wasnt scared of me at all I walked past it in the dark and it didnt even bolt.

And some idiot uses them for target practice. Shameful.

Greetings

I saw a documentary about the wild horses of Alberta a few years ago, and couldn’t stop watching it. With every viewing I realized just how much we humans could learn from these horses – loyalty, community, fortitude, patience, acceptance and adaptability. These beautiful horses and their environment must be protected. I only recently heard about them being shot???!!!!! Why????
I cannnot for the life of me understand any rationale that would allow for shooting these families. What are PETA/SPCA/World Wildlife Federation doing about this??? What are they willing to do?? What can I do to help????

We owe everything to the wild horses who are the gold standard against which we can measure our sadly lacking domestic horses. I was sickened by the news on CBC that the wild horses of Sundre are in danger of attack by a fool with a gun. This coward didn’t even demonstrate the humanity to ensure that these horses didn’t suffer. He left them injured. He’s a coward and deserves to be hunted down and prosecuted. And all horsepeople should be ashamed that we haven’t taken up the cause of the wild ones. How can we help?

I just saw a TV report on the Wild horses
I raised horses for 14 years
It touch me a lot
That to Doreen Henderson for the time she spend for thoses horses
I do not understand why we kill horses for nothing!! To me the is a link with the person who is not happy with themself
