Moratorium on Alberta’s Wild Horse Capture Season 2008

We have found out from the horses mouth, so to speak, that the government has not issued pen or roping permits this year.  We would like to express our gratitude to the SRD for this.  However, we received an email from a concerned individual whom on January 1st, saw some people on horse back that appeared to be harassing some wild horses. One wild mare was running in and out of the trees, and in the observers opinion, the mare was clearly upset.   We obtained vehicle and stock trailer descriptions and license plate numbers. The family also reported the episode to the local RCMP. 

Today, January 6th, 2008 Bob and I took a drive out West to the area where the alleged incident occurred and found trucks and stock trailers matching their descriptions.   We documented this and reported it to the RCMP as well.Â

How many wild horses are left in alberta?

I think no permits is excellent news.Hopefuly someone thinks they should take a look at what people are asking for.I think if anyone has ideas or suggestions now is the time to make them known to the people makeing the decisions as to what happens with wild horses.Every letter makes a difference.

i love wild horses as much as i do but i think that these animals should live in peace where they can rome free i may only be 11 yrs old but i love these animals very much. but they deserve to live in peace, know ive heard of some bad thing happening to these creatures because they have gone on to others lands thats why people need fences dont shot them down for one little mistake they do in life give them a chance to live in freedom. stop destroying them and start helping them
if you please like i said they mean no harm they are looking for food and water to servive,,,help them and care more!

i think wild mustangs/horses are great because of there wild appearance in life i love them treat themm that way!

According to reports, the SRD decided this due to public pressure. Let’s keep it up. There are 943 signatures on the Care2 petition devoted to protecting these Mustangs. What measures or steps do the RCMP take when you provide information on the terrorist poachers? Every time I visit your site and witness how your vigilance protects these horses, my heart lightens. Thank you most sincerely.

I wrote a letter to the gouvrnment and tim morton i think that is his name… anyway he said that horses don’t belong in the wild!!!!!!!!!

I live in Montreal, and I have juste seen on television, a report about the wild horses of Alberta. I am also a contributor for the french horse magazine Equi-Libre, and my editor is preparing an in-debth article in Canadian slaughterhouses, to be printed in June.
So do not despair, even here, even in french,word is getting around. The plight of the wild horses will be heard. Lets pull this wagon together, and we will save a wonderful creature from man’s worst instincts…greed and cruelty.
