Will Skip School 2009 Bay Tobiano Gelding
The road to getting a quality home bred paint to show has definitely been a bumpy one for the Samela family. After breeding our 2 mares to a couple different stallions, we seem to get solids every time! Eventually I, Crystal Samela, decided to breed my favorite mare to a Homozygous Stallion and found Will Spot Ya. I had seen in the Paint Journals many of his babies doing well on the World Show level which was promising to me plus the added bonus of a 100% colour guarantee! What could be better? I gave Bit O Shawnee Spirit, “Shawnee” (my Barrel Racing mare) the year off from showing so she would have no stress during her pregnancy, as not to risk losing the foal. After months and months of anticipation my foal was born. A beautiful Grullo Tobiano filly, but unfortunately she was born with contracted tendons in her front legs and was unable to stand up. I lost her 36 hours later and was heartbroken and had to start all over again.
After nearly loosing Shawnee as well, due to the tough delivery, I swapped out mares for my mom Colleen’s QH cutting mare Willow San, “Willow”, for the re-breed. Luckily we were just in time to get the last shipment of the season and my waiting game would begin again! In 2009, 1 year later (June 18 to be exact) our family was blessed with a stunning Bay Tobiano Colt. “Chase” (officially known as ‘Will Skip School’) would live up to my expectations – and more! He wow’d us from the start at 2 days old when we saw his beautiful flat lope out in the field and as he grew so[more]...

Message from 2010 President - Greg Gavelin
|
|
1/19/2010
Hello everyone, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Greg Gavelin and I am the new President elect of the Alberta Paint Horse Club. For those who don’t know me, my wife Jan and I live just south of Calgary in De Winton Alberta with our three children, Kendra, Sean and Todd. I enjoy riding my horses at home and showing them, but my family just enjoys them for recreational use. I work as an accountant at an Oil and Gas company in Calgary, commuting everyday so that I can enjoy the rural lifestyle.
To begin, I would like to thank the 2009 APHC Executive & Board of Directors for their work throughout the year. Thank you to Melisa Barber for her significant contributions as President of the club in 2009. I am pleased that Melisa will be returning to the Board in 2010 as Past President. I would also like to also send a big Thank you to everyone who attended the APHC Annual General Meeting and Banquet on January 16, 2010. There were many suggestions and discussion items brought forward at the AGM, and I would like to see us work on many of these in 2010. Another important Thank you goes out to all of the members who volunteered their time and worked diligently last year and assisted our club in many ways. There are so many of you that have contributed your time and knowledge to our club.
Congratulations to the 2010 APHC Executive and Board of Directors, which I have listed below.
I look forward to 2010 with optimism and enthusiasm and I am sure that as a club we can continue to grow and accomplish new and additional goals. To that end, I am asking for your support t[more]...

2010 Membership Information
|
|
1/4/2010
When purchasing your 2010 APHC Membership please note the following changes: The club official publication Horses All (HA) has now requested that subscriptions be directly billed to each member. The form is currently being updated to reflect a check box which gives you the choice to order HA and the club will provide them with each mailing address. So please do not include the $12.50 in your membership payment. Western Horse Review is no longer offering a subscription special as some of you have taken advantage of over the past, so if you want that magazine you will have to directly obtain it from them. Please note that the membership prices will remain the same for the 2010 year with the: Family - $75.00 Individual - $50.00 Youth - $25.00 Memberships for the year will be accepted starting at the AGM and forward. The forms are located directly from this Home Page under Forms

2010 Sponsorship Drive

2/21/2010
The 2010 Sponsorship Letter, Benefits Package and Forms have now been posted under Sponsors from this Home Page. The APHC requires many level of support, from purchasing your membership, attending the APHC shows, $$ donations as well as donating/purchasing from our fundraising efforts such as the Silent Auctions. This year we would like to 'aim high' and gain as much support as early into the year as possible and keep the momentum going. We would like to encourage our members to circulate our printer-friendly package to anyone that they may find interested in supporting our club and its efforts.
If you have any further questions or would like further information past what we have posted please contact Sheryl Hilton (403) 934-2416
