March Rising Star - Eyzasensation

Eyzasensation when vision becomes reality!
As told by breeder/owner Deana Bjornson…

My goal as a breeder is to produce a horse that has correct conformation as well as the movement of the modern performance horse, a horse that is capable of showing in halter as well as performance with plenty of the “pretty factor”.  I have worked toward this goal over the years by crossing the foundation horses that had the conformation with the flowing movement of today’s modern performance horse.
Boodoodoll, a 2002 overo mare is a result of the vision I had for my program, as she has everything that I have described.  Sired by Zips Power Play, out of a foundation bred mare that I had owned for many years, this baby was just born to be a natural for the show ring!   I trained and showed ‘Boo’ myself, and as a two year old we only attended the fall show because of my prior judging commitments, but achieved 6 western pleasure points, and was 4th overall in the Breeders Stakes Futurity program.  She was on her way to a new show home in California when she was injured so remained on the farm and joined my broodmare band.  So what seemed like a big disaster turned itself into one of the best things that could have happened to me and my breeding program.  With t[more]...

A passion for horses goes back as far as I can remember.  I recall year after year sitting and watching all the classes at our local County Fair horse show and envying all the participants, but, it wasn’t until I was out on my own – earning my own pay cheque - that it could happen for me.  My first ‘show horse’ was a big palomino QH gelding (Skippy) from Lawrence KUPKA’s stock.  Boarding at a small outdoor stable we showed small open shows like Cooking Lake Saddle Club in the Edmonton area.  I then purchased a yearling QH filly – Spanish Bobinella (Sterling) at Select QH sale near Wainwright, AB.  For the next seven years Sterling and I showed open shows, fairs and dabbled on the Quarter Horse circuit.  We showed in all disciplines with our most amusing Hi-point Horse award being at a Trakehner/Open show – showing Dressage, Jumping, English and Western Pleasure (no there were no Trakehners in the Western Pleasure class).  All attempts at breeding Sterling to create my first American Paint Horse proved unsuccessful – therefore I purchased the foal at the boarding stable out of a Thoroughbred mare and Born To Be Grand – Abinitos Phantom (Phantom).  He was going to be my Dressage Horse.   As a 3 yr old Phantom went for training to Double C Quarter Horses and this was our start on the Paint Horse Circuit.  At 16.3 ½ hands, English and jumping were about Phantom’s only classes.  At seven he was sold to Ohio and he then went on to Texas and 2 World Championships in Jumping.  In 2000, we moved to an acreage with a [more]...

Message from 2010 President - Greg Gavelin

1/19/2010

Hello everyone,
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself.   My name is Greg Gavelin and I am the new President elect of the Alberta Paint Horse Club.   For those who don’t know me, my wife Jan and I live just south of Calgary in De Winton Alberta with our three children, Kendra, Sean and Todd.
I enjoy riding my horses at home and showing them, but my family just enjoys them for recreational use.
I work as an accountant at an Oil and Gas company in Calgary, commuting everyday so that I can enjoy the rural lifestyle.

To begin, I would like to thank the 2009 APHC Executive & Board of Directors for their work throughout the year.  Thank you to Melisa Barber for her significant contributions as President of the club in 2009.  I am pleased that Melisa will be returning to the Board in 2010 as Past President.
I would also like to also send a big Thank you to everyone who attended the APHC Annual General Meeting and Banquet on January 16, 2010.  There were many suggestions and discussion items brought forward at the AGM, and I would like to see us work on many of these in 2010.
Another important Thank you goes out to all of the members who volunteered their time and worked diligently last year and assisted our club in many ways.  There are so many of you that have contributed your time and knowledge to our club.

Congratulations to the 2010 APHC Executive and Board of Directors, which I have listed below.

I look forward to 2010 with optimism and enthusiasm and I am sure that as a club we can continue to grow and accomplish new and additional goals.   To that end, I am asking for your support t[more]...
