Strait Cut got caught in some old electrical wire that has been under ground since before we came to this place, just with all the rain we received , the pen was softer I guess and he was sinking in deeper. The end result was that both his hind feet got caught and cut up, the one foot healed good, the other...were still working on, it looks good but he is still leaking joint fluid, the vets are deciding what our next step should be. Either way he is out for breeding, I guess we should consider ourselves lucky in that we had bred 3 of our mares to him, before he got hurt, we do have one colt that we may keep for a replacement for him, just in case he can never be used again. But hopefully that isn't the case.
July 15 update - Gunner went to Moore And Company to have surgery done to remove the infection from his tendon sheath, he will have a cast on to help protect him. Hopefully we'll here a little more on how things are going for him today. If we hadn't done the surgery, his other option was not good, so here's to hoping his long slow recovery is a good one. We have heard of both good and bad outcomes from this type of injury/recovery. Have had another breif update.. and the infection end should be ok to get under control, but...the damage to the tendon may not repair or may not stay repaired, so I guess were in for the long haul and really won't know.
We are working on changing land base and going down to a 1/4 or less so with this change, our horse number needs to be reduced, it's been hard making some of the choices in reducing the mares....
